This is a video of a new style called fire extinguisher tagging. this method allows you to shoot paint much higher in the air up onto huge walls and buildings! this method was invented only recently in the USA. most people say it is a product of the NYC graffiti scene. its not a very common method that not many can do! enjoy

Modern graffiti

Modern graffiti is much different to the first styles of graffiti. in the early daysa of the 1900's up until the 60's graffiti had more of an art approach. Graffiti back then was more detailed pictures and paintings. In the 60's in Philidelphia and NYC new styles started to appear. The writing of a "tag".

The most famous artist that boosted this new style into the public view was "TAKI 183". HE was a foot messenger and took the subway alot. So as he rode he sprayed his tag everywhere to keep himself occupied! This got great media attention and all of a sudden many more "tags" were cropping up all over NYC and spreading all around America!

Modern graffiti these days has been taken to a new level. Artists try to challenge themselves to paint the most creative tag. Or to tag the hardest most unusual place! For example to spray the side of a train. "Cornbread" who was also one the first modern graffiti artists was famius for tagging a elephant in the Philidelphia Zoo and the side of the Jackson 5's private jet!
That is the origins of modern graffiti and how it came about!

recognition by graffiti

Many things down through the years have been recognised by there graffiti or street art. For example many famous gangs are widely known because of their such elaborate graffiti!

Gang and organisation art: Gangs would often have a a certain tag which is widely known. If a gang id known to a certain area its street art would often be seen down most streets! soome gangs and organisations even use graffiti to mark their territory.

Where Did this start?

In ancient times many empires had a symbol which was known to other to show what land was theirs.
In recent times like for example in Belfast. The IRA and UVF have huge piantings on sides on buildings and walls to show you are now entering their territory! they usually have their colours and trademark and make it very obvious! this is why sides of building are very common for this type of graffiti!

Types of Graffiti

Tags : Tags are done usually with a marker or just one colour! they are done very quickly!

Bombs: Bombs are made from 2 or 3 colours and usually dont take long to do! they are very common!

Full: These have no limits. Any amount of colours can be used! many different styles are shown and take much longer to do!

Banksy

Banksy is one of the worlds most famous graffiti artists! He does not just paint normal tags but he is well known for his weird, unusual style.

He was born in England and is from Bristol. His identity is still hidden even though he is worldwide famous! He has done his stuff all over the world!

It is very artistic and on peculiar topics! rather than having a normal tag he sticks too like other artists he paints paintings on odd topics and sometimes very politcal topics!
As you can see from the picture on the top right his stuff can be quite humerous, and also from the picture on the top right how clever he is in turning classic art into something modern and light hearted!
His graffiti seems to be one of a kind and not many people can recreate his style! but his work has gone worldwide by now!
